Electricity jolted through him as her hands grasped at him, cuffing his wrists with cold fingers as the fire lapped at his skin. Consciousness was slipping away, and yet at her touch his wolf, just moments ago resigned to their fate, rejoiced.

The sensation of her touch was overwhelming, like a lance through body and soul. And it hurt. It hurt more than his broken bones, torn muscles, and pounding head combined.

Her voice was soft, her touch soothing, and it was as though every point of connection sent charges racing through him containing parts of her soul that reached out to his, connecting them on a level he thought impossible.

Mine, his wolf growled as the stranger's face came into view.

For a moment, through the fire's light and dark sky, his blurred gaze made him believe he was looking at a goddess, with hair spun from starlight and the face of an angel.

Mine.

Liam awoke, inhaling slowly the soft fragrance of apples, citrus, and foxtails that when mingled with his own scent smelt like spiced apples, like Christmas. He always wondered why he'd been drawn to the fragrance of apples. Now he knew. On some level he must have recognised it as her scent. He inhaled again, his hand reaching out to the bed to find it cold. His wolf growled in displeasure, telling him what he already knew. Her scent, although it surrounded him, was faint.

Rolling onto his back, he saw the noon sun peering through the canopy of the trees and sat bolt upright. He never slept this late. Grabbing his trousers from the floor he slid them on, searching in vain for black his t-shirt before grabbing a clean one from his wardrobe. The thought of her wearing something with his scent appealed to his wolf. He'd taken great pleasure in leaving his marks on her flesh, ensuring anyone looking at her would know she was taken, that she was his. His, he thought, amazed at his own possessiveness.

Last night, as she lay sleeping in his arms on the sofa, unguarded confessions had slipped from his lips. He knew he should feel ashamed, maybe even guilty for sleeping with his brother's soulmate, but it was a feeling even the smallest part of his soul couldn’t muster. There would be a time when her draw to him would be undeniable, even if he was no good for him now their paths had crossed she'll find herself needing to go to him. The thought tore him up, cut him deeper than he thought possible.

She was so good, so pure, she deserved better than Luke. The sound of her soft laugh was like music to his ears, she was filled with light and love. Her kindness radiated through, she was selfless. At the gathering she could have protected her secret, she could have done nothing, but instead, she put herself at risk for people who had brought her nothing but misery. She was the epitome of good and her soul shone brightly behind eyes masked with fear and uncertainty.
